The Archives of War is a fascinating four-volume collection of wartime images ranging from the trenches of World War I, through the unparalleled destruction of World War II, to the Cold War's atomic arsenals. Most of this material, shot on 35mm film by British Pathe News, has never been seen by U.S. audiences. Thus it offers a fresh visual treatment of the major conflicts in the 20th century.

Volume 3 - World War II - The Battles takes you from the outbreak of war in Europe on September 1, 1939, to the atomic destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan during August 1945.Explore the fighting Europe, North Africa, China, the Eastern Front, the Atlantic and the Pacific battles, and the Normandy invasion. Also, see the English fighting for their lives in the Battle of Britain, the German defeat at the Battle of Stalingrad, important U.S. naval victories in the Pacific and women factory workers building bombs on the home front.

Volume 4 - The Cold War depicts the rise of atomic weapons and increased tension between the United States and the Soviet Union in the aftermath of World War II.Witness G.I.s being exposed to atomic blasts, the arrest of Communist agents, Civil Defense drills, Senator Joe McCarthy, the Berlin Wall, the Bay of Pigs invasion, the Cuban Missile Crisis and other important aspects of the Cold War.

Also, see excerpts from Soviet documentaries on Red China, the nuclear arms race and the Soviet Army.
