Geno Star is a Las Vegas lounge singer with ambitions that far exceed his talent. Desperate for money to help promote his career, Geno asks Nick Compasso, a small-time mobster, for a loan. Nick agrees, on the condition that Geno kill Vito, a bookie they both know. A terrified Geno agrees, but when he arrives at Vito's apartment, he is unable to bring himself to commit murder. Laughing at Geno's inability to kill him. Vito grabs for the gun and it goes off. Believing he has actually killed Vito. Geno flees the apartment, but not before he is spotted by a neighbor. Still laughing, Vito turns to share his hilarity with Nick. It is clear that Geno still loves Diva. With luck, and Detective Dunn on their side, Vinnie, Frank, and Dominick outwit Nick and his gang. Geno and Diva can pursue their love and their careers. The frame-up was good for one thing--it did make Geno famous.
