One of the best trumpet players ever to hit the jazz music scene, Dizzy Gillespe defined the style of bebop with his screeching high notes, rapid chord changes and animated stage antics. He became famous for playing the upturned trumpet and succeeded in bringing the Afro-Cuban sound to the forefront of jazz. An inspiration to countless musicians, Gillespie was also an accomplished composer who wrote some of the best-known jazz pieces including "Salt Peanuts", "A Night in Tunisia", and "Manteca".

Filmed in 1982, Dizzy's Dream Band is perhaps the definitive concert performance of Dizzy Gillespie captured on film, demonstrating the trumpet master's ingenious craft and commanding style.Recorded live at Lincoln Center in New York City, the show brought together twenty-five of the best jazz musicians including baritone saxophonist Gerry Mulligan, drummer Max Roach, vibraphonist Milt Jackson, pianist John Lewis and vocalist Jon Hendricks.Interspersed with interviews, backstage banter and historic footage, Dizzy's Dream Band gives an all-access pass to a once-in-a-lifetime jazz music event.
