Does war make you crazy, or do you have to be crazy to make war? This powerful drama raises the question, but doesn't provide any easy answers. Sgt. Welch and Private Donnell are just two of hundreds of men on their way to take Guadalcanal from the Japenese. But their company's assignment is the most dangerous: driving the enemy out of a wall of caves called "The Dancing Elephant." Welch is ready. A Career soldier who does what he is told, he's prepared for the insanity of battle. Donnell is also ready to fight, but believes his best chance of survival is to follow his own orders. As the violence swirls around them, their own persoanl war escalates, too. Soon both are walking "the thin red line" between sanity and madness.
