The Civil Rights Movement didn't just start with Martin Luther King Jr. or Rosa Parks. It started with Emmett Till.
The film that helped reopen one of history's most notorious cold case civil rights murders is the result of the director's 10-year journey to uncover the truth. Many consider this case to be the major catalyst for the American Civil Rights Movement that changed the course of history.
In August 1955, Mamie Till-Mobley of Chicago sent her only child, 14 year-old Emmett Louis Till, to visit relatives in the Mississippi Delta. Little did she know that only 8 days later, Emmett would be abducted from his Great-Uncles' home, brutally beaten and murdered for one of the oldest Southern taboos: whistling at a white woman in public. This ground-breaking film is the result of the filmmaker's 10-year journey to uncover the truth behind the nightmarish murder which served as a major impetus for America's civil rights movement that changed the course of history.
