When a popular actress (Gina Gershon) is accused of murder, she seeks the counsel of celebrity attorney, Norman Keane (James Garner).
Knowing that cases are won not in the courtroom but on television, Keane hires young inexperienced lawyer, Roy Guyton (Edward Kerr) to serve as his front. Fitted with a fake farm-boy accent, TV-friendly personality, and a hearing aid from which he hears Keane's signals, Guyton quickly captures the hearts of America.
But when a tabloid journalist (Kathleen Turner) does some uncovering, Guyton is thrown into the spotlight of a media circus, finding himself at the heart of his own trial where truth may be his only defense.
