Con woman, dancer or dominatrix?

Frank is a librarian with a deep romantic streak. Struck with love for a beautiful stranger named Miranda (Christina Ricci), he dares to speak his feelings and winds up in a whirlwind of sexual intrigue. The elusive Miranda presents many faces: she's a businesswoman and a dancer and a dominatrix, and though Frank enjoys the chase after her identity, he wonders if a working stiff can maintain his hold on such an exotic creature. The plot thickens as Miranda is pressured for cash by her mentor (John Hurt) and is taunted for sex by a sleezy millionaire (Kyle MacLachlan). She seeks escape with her slightly loopy new lover, but its anybody's guess whether they'll emerge unscathed from this web of high-stakes agendas.

The film soars, with amazing performances from a stellar cast, whose surreal behaviors suggest sex, money, and violence with every sultry breath.
