"Rich, luxurious, 'Sofie' is always captivating." -Caryn James, The New York Times
Sofie is the first motion picture to be directed by world renowned actress and Academy Award Nominee Liv Ullmann and is reminiscent of the style and artistry of Ms. Ullmann's mentor, Ingmar Bergman. Sofie (Karen-Lise Mynster) is the only daughter of Semmy (Erland Josephson), head of a late 19th century Jewish Family in Denmark who finds herself bound to traditions which clash with the temptations of her heart. The film celebrates Sofie's life and passions, as she strives for happiness in an arranged marriage, grows to understand her family and finds the strength to accept her only child's decision to pursue a more modern way of life. Sofie, a reflection of the influence of Ingmar Bergman and the talent of Liv Ullmann, is a film which has already become a classic.
