A City Girl, A Country Boy And The Proposition Of A Lifetime
Sophie Ware (Wendy Crewson, The Many Trial of One Jane Doe, Santa Clause 2), a cynical and world-weary lounge pianist returns to her southern Alberta home for her father's funeral. She inherits the family ranch and, at a crossroad in her own life, decides to stay and try to turn the ranch into a profitable operation.
Determined to succeed, Sophie hires handsome Alexander Bresnyachuck (Paul Gross, Men With Brooms, Due South), a high school acquaintance, to help work the ranch. After 15 years working as a transient labourer, Alex is looking for something more permanent. Alex and Sophie are clearly attracted to each other but, when Alex proposes marriage, his mind primarily on business - he wants to be a rancher and she needs a man around the property.
People and circumstances conspire to threaten their tenuous relationship: Sophie's mother, her sophisticated best friend Eleanor, and unresolved issues from Alex's past. It's a rocky road to the altar but en route, Sophie learns much about herself, the complexities of love and the value of tradition in a modern world.
