This ballet tells a story of unrequited love set against a background of Indian temples and palaces in an atmosphere fragrant with sandalwood.
Natalia Makarova's production of La Bayadere was originally created in 1980 for the American Ballet Theatre and is the first complete production of the ballet to have been performed in the West.
