Roy Rogers Collection 4

Roy Rogers, the King of the Cowboys, saddles up again on DVD! Dale Evans, George "Gabby" Hayes and Trigger, the Smartest Horse in the Movies are along for the ride!

For this DVD, Heldorado (1946) has been transferred from one of the few complete prints known to exist. It pits Ray against the Las Vegas mob as he tries to get to the bottom of a money-laundering scheme. (Timely stuff considering that Bugsy Siegel opened the Flamingo hotel and casino the same year Heldorado opened in theaters.) Director William Witney filmed some sequences in Las Vegas during the annual Helldorado rodeo, giving us a good look at an actual live performance by Roy and the Sons of the Pioneers. Dale Evans and Pat Brady round out the cast.

One of the last Rogers period Westerns, In Old Cheyenne (1941) finds Roy a frontier newspaper reporter writing a series of articles on the alleged Wyoming train robber Arapahoe Brown (Hayes). During his investigation, however, Roy discovers that Brown is actually innocent and works to help clear his name. In Old Cheyenne is the work of Republic Pictures' great staff director Joe Kane.
