Growin' A Beard is a documentary that follows the men of Shamrock, TX - and a hairy outsider - as they compete in the town's annual Beard Growing Contest. Since 1938, it's been a tradition in Shamrock to grow a beard from New Year's Day to St. Patrick's Day. But not just any beard - A Donegal beard.
A Donegal grows along the jowl and chin with no mustache - like the Amish or Leprechaun's. Then, on the morning of St. Patrick's Day, right before the big parade, they face-off on Main Street Route 66 and are judged to see who has the best Donegal. In this year's contest the competition is fierce.
