Soldier. Adventurer. Politician. Author. Legend.

This three-part series explores many of the myths that surround the Churchill legend, revealing the complexity of the real man who was a soldier, adventurer, politician, author and arguably the greatest Englishman of the 20th century. The programs present an intimate representation of Winston Churchill's extraordinary character and life, illuminating the forces that drove him.

Churchill's granddaughter Celia Sandys, a respected historian of her grandfather's life, is advisor to the series. Her unique access and insight into the public and private records of Churchill's life, coupled with previously unseen family photographs and new film material, lend insight into one of the world's most remarkable men.

Destiny - The first episode tells the story of Churchill's early life - his aristocratic birth, his search for glory on the battlefield, his rise up the political ladder and his fall from it.

The Lion's Roar - This episode traces Churchills's leadership of Britain through its finest hour during the Battle of Britain to its darkest hour in 1942.

The Last Prize - The final program opens with Churchill's trip to the Normandy beaches in June 1944 and closes when Churchill dies in January 1965, not only the end of an incredible life, but the end of an era.
