King Philippe of Spain sends the Duke of Riveira y Fuentes to Rome. T he Duke is supposed to give the Pope a title in exchange for an alliance and a friendly treaty. On his journey, the Duke is attacked and taken prisoner by some bandits under the orders of head bandit, Duccio. Duccio steals the Duke's credentials and goes to Rome. After many meetings with the Roman nobles, in Lucrecia Borgias' palace of the Masked Lady, Duccio is greeted and treated as a real Duke by the masked lady. When the real Duke finally arrives in Rome, Duccio must flee, and the insatiable masked lady, the embodiment of passion, Lucrecia Borgia, realizes she has had a love affair with a common thief.
