In a devious plot to steal the Count of Monte Cristo's wealth, scoundrels trap his mischievous son, Dantes (Robert Clarke), in a compromising position romancing a married woman. Caught in the act, he kills her jealous husband and is imprisoned. He is offered his release if he marries the now-widowed Claire (Catherine McLeod) and signs away his inheritance.
