From the Best-Selling novel by Joseph Wambaugh

Sergeant A.M. Valnikov (Robert Foxworth) is a hard-drinking homicide detective transferred to Hollywood's robbery division. His new partner Natalie Zimmerman (Paula Prentiss) is a hard-nosed divorcee with no patience for burnt-out cops. And "Terrier King" Philo Skinner (Harry Dean Stanton) is a desperate dog groomer who has kidnapped a champion schnauzer for $84,000 in ransom. Together they will track this case through a town of tarnished dreams where crime is never perfect, love is often blind and some people always pick The Black Marble.

Barbara Babcock and Judy Landers co-star in this quirky comedy-drama directed by Harold Becker (Sea of Love, The Onion Field) from a screenplay by Joseph Wambaugh based on his best-selling novel, and featuring cameo appearances by Christopher Lloyd and James Woods.
