Working Hard or Hardly Working?

When the newly appointed manager of a public records firm (David Paymer) decides his staff of three could use some help, he hires Bartelby (Crispen Glover), the one and only candidate who applies for the job. At first Bartelby is a model of efficiency, but before long, the eccentric employee starts refusing to do what he is told. With the repeated utterance - "I'd prefer Not To" - Bartelby inspires complete and utter chaos within the workplace. Based on Herman Mellville's classic short story "Bartelby, the Scrivener", this side-splitting comedy also stars Glenne Headly, Joe Piscopo, Maury Chaykin and Seymour Cassel.
