He knows trouble when he flees it.
Knotts stars as Jesse W. Heywood, a timid Pennsylvania dentist who leaves the comfort of the East to bring modern dentistry to teh West. The misadventures begin when Jesse is duped into marrying a statuesque redhead (and reformed stagecoach bandit) who has agreed to finger the men responsible for selling whiskey to the Indians. Soon, Jesse and his bride are involved in a series of shootouts against renegade Indians and the town bad guy, and the desperate dentist is forced to switch from gums to guns in this rollicking comedy romp.
