Strange and self-mythologizing, this enigma of the American cinema invented a completely unhinged world of the imagination, celebrated in its time by Andre Breton and the surrealists. in the 1930s he returned to animation. Forgotten for decades, Charley Bowers' genius was miraculously rediscovered in the late 1960s by Raymond Borde of the Toulouse Cinematheque in France; it proved a relation!
