Blood On the Sun This classic film, set in the late 1920s, focuses on worldly newspaper editor Nick Condon (James Cagney) of the American-owned Tokyo Chronicle, who prints a controversial story. Japanese authorities demand a retraction, but Condon refuses and is then framed for a murder he is trying to investigate. There is plenty of action here as Cagney even demonstrates his proficiency in jujitsu and wins a slambang fight with a brutish Japanese secret service captain...Most fascinating are the details relating to the "Tanka Plan", a real document which outlines Japan's plan to invade Manchuria, stolen in 1927 and exposed in the international press.
James Cagney: On Film James Cagney was as diverse as he was intense-a superb talent reaching far beyond the perpetually mimicked characteristics of the reedy voice and staggered walk. Cagney captivated us in such early classics as Public Enemy and Angels With Dirty Faces. He thrilled the world in his Oscar winning performance in Yankee Doodle Dandy, and stirred up nostalgia in 1981's Ragtime. From his childhood in New York to his luminous career and turbulent relationship with Warner studios, this documentary takes us on a trip through the life of a true Hollywood legend.
The Time of Your Life Based on a William Saroyan play, The Time of Your Life tells the story of Nick's Saloon, Restaurant and Entertainment Palace, and the characters who frequent this waterfront dive in San Francisco. Cagney plays a saloon philosopher, drinking and listening to the stories of his friends there while also offering some eccentricities of his own. His real life sister, Jeanne, is featured in the supporting cast and his brother William, produces the film. A labor of love for the Cagney siblings, The Time of Your Life encourages people to live out their dreams.
