F4U Corsair: Thunder From The Skies:
The F4U Corsair is regarded by many as one of the greatest combat aircraft in history, and was in production for longer than any U.S. fighter other than the F4 Phantom. As conceived, it mounted the most powerful engine and biggest propeller of any fighter in existence, and the prototype was the first U.S. combat aircraft to exceed 400 mph.

Early on, the Corsair proved to dangerous for carrier-based operations. It was instead provided under Lend-Lease to the British Fleet Air Arm.

The U.S. Navy finally adopted the F4U as a shipboard fighter-bomber in 1944 and by early 1945 large numbers were operating from the fast carriers of the Pacific Fleet .

By the end of hostilities in the Pacific War, it had established a kill ratio of 11:1 against Japanese aircraft.

B-29 Superfortress: Wings Of Destruction:
The B-29 Superfortress was the most advanced bomber aircraft to see operation service during World War II. It was the first bomber with pressurized crew compartments, and differed from its predecessors by the use of remotely controlled machine gun turrets.

Designed by Boeing Aircraft as an eventual replacement for the B-17 and the B-24 in the Euro Theatre, it was instead sent to the Pacific where its great range capability made it suited for long attack flights to Japan from bases in China.

In August 1945, the Enola Gay and Bock's Car made history over Hiroshima and Nagasaki by becoming the only two aircraft to drop atomic bombs during wartime.

P-47 Thunderbolt: Bolt From The Blue:
In the entire history of military aviation, there has never been an airplane that could match the P-47 Thunderbolt for ruggedness and dependability. The pilots who flew it into combat called it "The Unbreakable" and "The plane that can do anything." P-47s often came safely back from combat shot full of holes, their wings in tatters. Only 0.7% were lost in combat.

The prototype Thunderbolt first took to the air on May 8, 1941. By mid-1943, improved P-47s included an external fuel tank to increase range, and a longer fuselage to improve maneuverability. More powerful engines were built, giving the Thunderbolt a maximum speed of 470 mph.
