A Documentary

Inspired by traditional New Orleans jazz music, Chris Barber has developed a personal and distinctive style all his own. Many have felt that only Amerincans could play this unique kind of music. But now, both the critics and the public agree that Chris Barber has turned over this longstanding myth. No one disputes that he is a fine and influential musician with a huge international following.

While initially inspired by New Orleans jazz, Barber has embraced a great many musical idioms - most notably the blues. So his skills are not limited to one particular sound. And this has contributed greatly to his ever expanding repertoire.

This documentary shows Barber in full force, playing a wide variety of music. We also get glimpses of Barber as a unique British jazz musician and how he managed to overcome to English jazz music and ultimately enjoyed great success.

Barber also speaks openly about the difficulties of touring, the special skill it takes to co-ordinate and maintain a band, the problems of pleasing his audience, his band and himself without losing sight of the need to introduce the great variety of music they wish to present.

By way of Barber's candid comments and some fine concert performances, we see a creative artist presenting the music he loves while dealing with some of the harsh realities he must confront as a jazz musician. And Barber has come out victorious.
