See This Unseen Version of His NBC Concert Special.
For swinging, finger-snapping vocalist Bobby Darin, the final curtain came in December 1973, when he was only 37 years old. A week heart ended his life - and shut down a highly versatile career that shaped and energized popular music for almost two decades.
This program brings Bobby back for an encore. It presents the full, pre-cut version of a live show he taped at NBC nine months before his death. His last recorded performance, the one-man show perfectly captures Darin's freewheeling vocal range and improvisational style. In between humorous riffs and witty monologues, Bobby croons the country weepie "Help Me Make It Through The Night," the rocker "Midnight Special," the Top-40 ballad "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You," the Darin standards "Beyond the Sea" and "If I Were A Carpenter," and nine other great numbers. The show ends with a smash when Darin belts out his signature swing song "Mack the Knife," the 1959 Grammy Award Winner that remains one of the most recognizable and beloved tunes in the history of popular music.
The stage is set. This collectible program gives Darin fans - old and new - the opportunity to see the last and the very best of a pop music giant.
