Jazz giant Dave Brubeck has thrilled millions of music lovers over the past 50 years with his exciting sound, fearlessly blending hot and cool rhythms in his songs and making jazz standards fresh and modern with his unique approach.

This is a fascinating, intimate portrait of a truly creative artist who broke all the rules by refusing to compromise his musical vision or his personal integrity. Brubeck drew his inspiration for his music from the rhythms of the ranch where he grew up dreaming of becoming a cowboy like his father. Pouring those adventurous yearnings into music, Brubeck formed the Dave Brubeck Quartet, which exploded on the jazz scene in the '50s and '60s, gaining international fame with the elegantly sophisticated "Take Five" and changing the world of jazz forever. Through the rest of his life, Brubeck has continued to tour and create new songs in a variety of genres, still fueled with the remarkable drive and passion of a musician just starting out.
