In An Extravagantly Baroque Setting
Antonio Vivaldi's The Four Seasons is performed at Ham House. All the musicians are in 18th century court costumes.
Performed by the English Bach Festival Baroque Ensemble, one of Britain's most outstanding.
"The Four Seasons" written in the early 1720's, are the first four concerti from "The Contest Between Harmony and Invention" OPUS VIII.They are among the earliest examples of the modern concerto, and are examples of 'programme' music in which the instruments set out to reproduce the sounds and images of nature. Each season is introduced by a "key sonnet".
"The Four Seasons" are scored for a solo violin, pitted against a small chamber orchestra with continuo.
Digitally recorded and mixed to capture the true essence of this magnificent production.
