The B-29 Superfortress was the most advanced bomber aircraft to see operation service during World War II.It was the first bomber with pressurized crew compartments, and differed from its predecessors by the use of remotely controlled machine gun turrets.
Designed by Boeing Aircraft as an eventual replacement for the B-17 and the B-24 in the Euro Theatre, it was instead sent to the Pacific where its great range capability made it suited for long attack flights to Japan from bases in China.
In August 1945, the Enola Gay and Bock's Car made history over Hiroshima and Nagasaki by becoming the only two aircraft to drop atomic bombs during wartime.
