The musical expression of religious faith becomes the focus of this symphonic celebration recorded live during the Music Triennale in Cologne. Conducted by Semyon Bychkov, the WDR Symphony Orchestra performs three diverse examples of modern classical composition from three masters of their craft--Shostakovich, Berio, and Sofia--featuring the London Voices, the Rascher Saxophone Quartet, and viola solos by Yuri Bashmet, who provided the inspiration for Gubaidulina's "Concerto for Orchestra and Viola."
