There is a door between life and death that opens for only a moment.

Jane Hardy, recovering from emotional problems following a difficult divorce, leaves San Francisco for a summer in the country house left to her by her late aunt.On the road, she has an eerie, near-collision with a hearse.Arriving at "the old Martin place,"she discovers it's been left as it was when her aunt died 30 years before. No one has lived in it since. But locals still whisper about the house being haunted and Jane fears her aunt may have made a pact with the devil. She turns to a mysterious stranger for help and begins, once again, to fall in love. But does he really exist?Or is he a part of the house's evil legacy?
