A compelling story looking at the tragedy of civilian life and human upheaval during World War II.

Before Schindler's List brought the world's attention to the atrocities and violence of Hitler's armies, there were other compelling stories looking at the tragedy of civilian life and human upheaval during World War II. The Last Train is one of these stories.

This powerful adventure takes us to France in May 1940. The German forces are advancing through Holland and Belgium with lightning speed. Despite fierce resistance, they are heading into France. Panic hits the streets as civilians flee for their safety from the devastation that surrounds them. As the last train to freedom makes it's way through France, it picks up as many people as possible. We look through the eyes of two people who are separated from their family as they deal with fear, uncertainty and loneliness. Julian (Jean Luis-Trintignant) befriends a beautiful young woman played by Romy Schneider. Unsure about the future and needing comfort, they find themselves embracing each other and falling in love.
