The Holy Land at the dawn of a new era. An itinerant Jewish preacher named Jesus began attracting attention. He spoke of a loving God, taught a reorientation of human values and proclaimed that the kingdom of God was close at hand. Some of his contemporaries abandoned everything in their former lives to follow him. Perhaps he was the one they had been waiting for so long, the Messiah, the "anointed of the Lord," who would rescue Israel from its enslavement.
The ruling class saw Jesus as an upstart and a blasphemer. In a show trial, they demanded a guilty verdict. The Roman occupiers had him crucified, but the end was just beginning. The disciples believed in the resurrection of Jesus. For them, the Jewish teacher, Jesus, had become a theologically interpreted Christ.
Filmed on location in actual historic, biblical sites. Featuring full-scale dramatic re-creations, this series explores the archeology and origins of Christianity and how it came into the world.
