A Blood Dripping Brain Transplant Turns a Mania into a Monster
When the producers of the Blood Island series had no new Philippine horror film for their upcoming season, filmmakers Al Adamson and Sam Sherman were hired to create this Blood Island- inspired follow-up.
Busy on another project, Eddie Romero felt that Adamson and Sherman could provide a similar kind of product.Back from the Romero productions were many familiar elements- star Kent Taylor, the evil dwarf (Angelo Rossitto) blood-soaked "splatter" operations, a mad doctor's lab and the original music score from Mad Doctor from Blood Island. So well was the Philippine formula followed that many recent writers have assumed this film was shot in the Philippines. It was, however, filmed in Hollywood, with most familiar locations avoided to try to replicate the look of the previous productions.
Joining Kent Taylor is a stellar cast including Grant Williams (The Incredible Shrinking Man), Reed Hadley (Racket Squad, Zorro's Fighting Legion), Regina Carol (Dracula vs. Frankenstein), and Vicki Volante (Horror of the Blood Monsters). The hulking giant is played by John Bloom, Frankenstein monster of Dracula vs. Frankenstein, while that film's Dracula, Zandor Vorkov, also has an important role.
The transplanting of human brains and electronic device implantation play important roles in a story loaded with blood, shock and sheer fright.
