Love And Honour Demand The Greatest Sacrifice.

From the team behind such favorites as Upstairs, Downstairs and The Duchess Of Duke Street comes this moving Masterpiece Theatre drama series about the special relationship between a father and his son.

When Captain Stephen Sorrell (Richard Pasco) goes off to fight in France during the First World War, he leaves behind a happy wife, baby son and bright future. His return, however, is another matter. The war has taken its toll on his body, his prospects and finally, his marriage.

Deserted by his wife and left alone to care for his son, Kit (Peter Chelsom), Sorrell becomes obsesses with raising him to be a successful doctor, no matter what the cost to himself. He takes menial jobs wherever he can find them, even washing dishes in a seedy bar, to ensure Kit's place in society. After nearly thirty years of hardship, scorn, disappointments and personal grief, Sorrell's dream is finally within reach. Yet fate is waiting with one final card that threatens to destroy it all in an instant.

Based on the best-selling novel by Warwick Deeping and filmed entirely on location in England, Sorrell And Son is a richly detailed saga about the power of family to triumph over the most bitter obstacles.
