The Abbott and Costello TV Show is timeless American humor, as fresh as it was 40 years ago.All the classic routines which "the boys" performed on film, radio and stage, were captured in 1952-1953 for the new medium of television and delivered at the peak of their powers.
The regular cast of characters, including Mr. Fields, Mike the Cop, Stinky, Bacciagalupe and Hillary, had worked with Bud and Lou on film and stage and each contributed memorably. These shows stand today as perhaps the finest surviving representation of the art of burlesque comedy.
The Drugstore After the boys open the show with their classic "Jonah and the Whale" routine, they take a job at Mr. Fields brother's drugstore.Lou is driven crazy by some kids buying licorice, and then turns ill as he watches Stinky drink a glass of castor oil.The lunacy escalates with each customer until the boys are fired after they nearly destroy the drug store in a slapstick finale that begins when Lou starts an ice cream fight.
Square Meal The boys' search for a square meal first takes them to Baccialupe's lunch counter, where Lou's allergy to meatballs drives Bacciagalupe crazy. At a cafeteria, the boys get involved in a hilarious case of mistaken identity with twin waitresses. Finally, Lou is ready to dine on oyster stew, but the oyster has other ideas.
$1000 Prize The Gusto Steak Sauce "Money to Burn" program happens to be on when the boys are fixing Mr. Fields' apartment, and by mistake the boys answer the $1000 question correctly. They hatch a scheme to get Mr. Fields out of his apartment so they can be there when the prize money is delivered, but Mr. Fields returns unexpectedly and mayhem ensues.
Wife Wanted Lou loses all his money in a poker game, but he will inherit $10,000 if he can find a wife before his rich grandfather visits. The boys run amuck trying to pick up a girl, but Lou discovers his old girlfriend Agnes still likes him.Unfortunately, she's been dating a jealous wrestler named Bone Bender Brotsky. When Brotsky finds Lou in Agnes' apartment, he flies into a jealous rage.
