Dreaming big runs in the family.
This enormously popular British comedy/ drama series made a star of Catherine Zeta-Jones (Traffic) who, in her first TV series, got more newspaper coverage than the Royal Family!
Set during the ever-sunny 1950s, this is the story of the indestructible Larkin family, headed by Sidney "Pop" Larkin (David Jason), a dreamer and schemer who has managed to avoid paying taxes throughout his working life.
The clan leads an idyllic (if flamboyant) life in the English countryside, coloured by the flirtatious ways of beautiful daughter Mariette (Zeta-Jones).Pop Larkin's never-ending supply of ill-fated entrepreneurial adventures and the fierce of each family member to one another through good times and bad.
Based on the popular books by H.E. Bates and filmed in gorgeous locales around Kent, this series is a touching and often hilarious tribute to family life.
The Happiest Days Of Your Life - Zinnia and Petunia, the Larkin twins, are proving to be too much of a handful for the local school. Therefore, Pop and Ma Larkin decide to send them to a nearby boarding school, Brockhurst College, Pop can see the place is in need of more than the odd, running repair, but is swayed by the twins' enthusiasm.Unfortunately, the enthusiasm does not last long as they soon miss Ma's home comforts and run away.
Meanwhile, Charlie goes to see Bristow, the local brewer, to inform him that after 200 years of business, his company is set to go bust.
Cast Not Your Pearls Before Swine - Pop has the "perfick" birthday surprise for Ma.A traditional Punch and Judy show provides the laughter, with Pop supplying the voices. Also on show at the Larkin celebrations is George Harran, the man who has stolen the heart of Edith Pilchester.Pop, at first, is jealous and has his doubts about Edith's new boyfriend.
