Maria Callas died on 16 September 1977 aged 53.She was probably the greatest opera singer of the century - she was certainly the best known. The events of her life were always news, yet at the time of her death she was alone, and confided in virtually no-one.Her fame lay not only in her musicalbrilliance and range, but also in the dramatic intensity which she brought to her roles. She penetrated deep down to the roots of characters like Tosca, Norma, Medea and Viloetta in La Traviata. This documentary gives a new insight into the character of Maria Callas. It celebrates her singing and dramatic skills, explore the woman behind the public persona and the conflict between her personal aims and her ambitions.
