After forming the Tympany Five in 1939, Jordan enjoyed a string of successes that would span nearly two decades and influence such emerging artists as Ray Charles, Chuck Berry, Johnny Otis and James Brown. Among the band's sidemen were several outstanding musicians including Wild Bill Davis, Bill Doggett, Shadow Wilson, and Bill Hadnott. Jordan's hits "Five Guys Named Moe" and "Caledonia", an excerpt from one of Jordan's many film appearances, demonstrate his trademark styling of romping horns, far-reaching vocals, and comedic entertainment.
