By 1947, John Wayne was a major movie star. And with Angel and the Badman, he began getting involved in the production of his films. The picture also began Wayne's long association with writer James Edward Grant, who made his directorial debut with this classic Western.
Wayne the producer put together a great package. Locations in Sadona, Arizona, and Monument Valley. And ace cinematographer Archie Stout, who would shoot many of Wayne's self-produced movies. This cast and crew, all working at their peak, make a familiar story (an outlaw tamed by a good woman) seem fresh and new.
