Carbon is a town carved out of the remains of a destroyed civilization. It sits on the edge of a future frontier. Years earlier, after a series of environmental disasters, many of those who could afford to do so, escaped a decaying Earth and moved to settlements in near-space. The remaining population was forced to band together in towns like Carbon. Jerry Paul runs Carbon. He owns the main source of income, mining, and the water supply. And he makes all the rules. When Richard Hannify, a reporter for one of the settlements, comes to Carbon to do a documentary, he sees how the law in the hands of a ruthless and vengeful man can turn a populace on itself. Carbon is crumbling both physically and morally. With a mob-inspired trial as the centerpiece, A TOWN HAS TURNED TO DUST is a classic adventure story with a futuristic background.
