Disaster - Disaster captures both man-made and natural disasters that have changed our world in this Century. The unpredictable world of nature has often exploded with devastating results. Earthquakes, volcanoes, floods and hurricanes have left whole nations reeling, despite our best efforts to predict and control the elements. But the greatest disasters of the Century have been of our own making. Advances in science and technology and the race for industrial and economic power have contaminated the environment and threatened the very existence of the planet.
War - Television and film archives carry more footage of the world's conflicts that on any other subject. We view rare footage of wars fought this Century across the continents of the world. War traces the last one hundred years of battles through extraordinary moving images of combat and suffering, and shows us the changing face of warfare from cavalry charges to mechanized massacres of whole populations.
Fame - There has always been Fame - but in this century, with the probing eye of the camera lens, Fame has taken on a new meaning. We look back at some of those who have sought Fame and those who have shunned it. The images are captured of personalities including Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Charles Lindbergh, Princess Diana, Muhammad Ali and Babe Ruth. From movie stars, to dictators, to athletes, we witness the lives of the famous and the infamous, and discover how they became enduring icons of the Twentieth Century.
Invention - Invention has transformed this Century into an age of wonders. We witness the amazing inventions that have changed our lives, and the quirky inventions that seemed like a great idea at the time but never succeeded. Through extraordinary archive footage, we watch the tragic failed attempts to fly at the beginning of the Century and the awe-inspiring life-off of the Wright Brothers in 1903. From the devastating power of the atom bomb to the convenience of the fast food restaurant, Invention shows us the diverse machines and ideas that have created our modern world.
