When an insurance broker from L.A. shows up at the McCoys' farm with an offer to buy five acres of their useless, unplowable land, Grandpa Amos sees an opportunity to make some quick cash.But Kate and Luke won't have any part of it -- they don't think it's right to take advantage of the man.It isn't until after the deal has closed that Grandpa discovers they're the ones who've been had.But in the end, it's still the McCoys who have the last laugh.

They've had only one fire in five years but the fire brigade is looking for volunteers.Luke and Pepino aren't interested but Grandpa Amos, former head bucket for the Smokey Corners Fire Department back home in West Virginia, is anxious to join.When the fire chief tells Grandpa he's too old, he's embarrassed to tell his family.That's when the chief's barn catches fire and Grandpa, leading the volunteers, saves the day.
