Joseph (Douglas Spain), an 18 year old Mexican-American high school senior, is brutally attacked by two locals who represent the bigotry and ignorance of a predominantly white, middle-class town in California. In his rage, Joseph murders his attackers and is shot in the process.Scared, wounded and alone he breaks into what he thinks is an empty house only to find, home alone for the weekend, a classmate of his Lolly (Angela Bettis).Lolly, raised sheltered and emotionally cold, fears the worst from the intruder.

Over the course of the weekend, the relationship between Joseph and Lolly changes from an escaped murderer and hostage to two teenagers from different worlds who are able to break down the racial and sexual barriers between them. They attempt to escape from a town that would rather see them dead than together.
