1981
A time when people on TV still said "don't touch that dial."And meant it.
It was January 23, 1981, that Andy Kaufman - Saturday Night Live alumnus, comedian, Elvis impersonator, "Taxi" star, and wrestler of women - urged us not to touch that dial from the stage of Wolfman Jack's legendary rock & roll show The Midnight Special.
Here for the very first time on DVD - is this incredible episode, which includes some of Andy's most groundbreaking and well-known routines: Andy as Elvis.Andy as Latka Gravas (featuring rare, behind-the-scenes footage from the hit sitcom "Taxi").Andy as ventriloquist.Andy singing "It's A Small World" with an ensemble of African percussionists.Andy bussing tables at Jerry's Famous Deli in L.A.Andy wrestling women. And, Andy presents Tony Clifton, his abusive alter - ego.
With exclusive interview footage from the artist himself, and live appearances by Andy's hand-picked musical guests Freddie "Boom Boom" Cannon (performing "Tallahassee" with Andy on congas), and Slim Whitman (Andy's expression as Slim lip-syncs through "I Remember You" is priceless), this collection is a digitally-remastered, never-before-seen glimpse of the late comic visionary at his peak.
