After the premiere of The Messiah in Dublin in April 1742, the Dublin Journal stated that "it is difficult to describe the intense joy and admiration felt by the very large audience. The sublimity, the grandeur and the tenderness which fitted the intensely sublime, majestuous and moving text contributed to transporting both hearts and ears."

This magnificent work is performed in the prestigious setting of The Abbey Of La Chaise Dieu, a superb architectural landmark in the Auvergne Hills of central France. The magnificent 15th century tapestries are particularly noteworthy.
