A Tale Of Suspense And Intrigue

Set amongst the atmospheric streets and riverside of 19th-century Tyneside, The Secret is based on Catherine Cookson's only thriller novel.

When Freddie Musgrave is made junior partner by business-woman Maggie Hewitt, he grabs at the chance to leave behind his past as a scruffy young runner for powerful criminals.

The secrets which first drew Freddie and Maggie together, however, are threatened with exposure when a distinctive diamond reappears after 18 years, attracting the attention of some dangerous characters. When an anonymous letter puts Freddie in the frame for murder, he decides to turn detective in a bid to clear his name.

Freddie's life is further complicated by his feelings for Maggie's beautiful foster daughter, Belle. When Belle falls in love with handsome charmer Marcel Birkstead, her new suitor's family connections set alarm bells ringing for Freddie. As he attempts to convince Maggie that his misgivings are not solely due to jealousy, Freddie finds himself on the trail of the darkest secret of all.
