A Musical Pilgrimage to the Crossroads.
In 1990, director Robert Mugge (Hellhounds On My Trail, Gospel According to Al Green) and renowned music scholar Robert Palmer went deep into the heart of Mississippi to seek out the best blues acts in the country.Starting their journey in Memphis, Tennessee, they traveled from the juke joints of the northern Mississippi hill country, to the blues clubs of Greenville and Clarksdale, to the parlors and front porches of Bentonia and Lexington - documenting the performances of talented artists cut-off from the mainstream of the recording industry.The resulting film pays reverence to the rich musical history of the land, spotlighting established regional performers and demonstrating how the blues continues to thrive in a new generation of gifted musicians.
