Life is hard. Love is simple.

Set in back woods and gritty bar rooms, Chrystal not only transports you into the deep South, but also plugs you into its pulse.

Sixteen years after Joe (Academy AwardŽ winner Billy Bob Thornton) plunged the family car off the road with his wife Chrystal and their young son inside, Joe returns from prison seeking what was lost on that night. The thing he needs the most is the hardest to as for - his own redemption. But standing in the war are folks like Snake, a gnarly crank-snorting nemesis, who looks to settle an old score with a bloody fist fight. And Gladys, Chrystal's feisty mother who would like Joe to keep his distance. But sometimes it's impossible to walk away from your past. Lisa Blount is breathtaking as Chrystal, trapped in a body racked with pain from the crash, her eyes serving as windows to another time and place in the sultry Ozark Mountains.

With vivid images and outstanding performances, Ray McKinnon creates a world of painfully lyrical beauty set to an amazing soundtrack.
