Innocent...Until he can prove them guilty!

A crusty, retired High Court Judge with time on his hands and years of suspicion on his mind, Sir Fennimore Truscott (Sir Alec Guinness-Lawrence of Arabia, A Passage To India, The Bridge on the River Kwai), seeks a different kind of justice as he suspects his debonair neighbor of having had an affair with Lady Margaret (Renee Asherson-The Others, Grey Owl), the judge's attractive and independent wife.

While Sir Fennimore presents to the viewer, as the jury, his case for suspecting Tom Marjoriebanks (Paul Rogers-The Return of the Native, The Lady's Not For Burning) of seducing Lady Margaret many years before, a rare impending visit home by his son, Edwin, forces the judge's long-concealed fears into the open and he insists on having them addressed.

As Sir Fennimore puts it, "Members of the Jury, the issue of parentage is always a painful one, but painful issues must be faced." Just who is the boy's father?
