In the Wild West, a woman had few choices. Josephine Monaghan chose to be a man.

Like Unforgiven and Dances with Wolves, this critically acclaimed film is a classic Western with a modern twist. Suzy Amis (Judgement Day, Titanic, The Usual Suspects) gives a stunning performance as a woman who discovers that the Wild West is no place for a lady - unless she's disguised as a man. Featuring dynamic suporting performances by Bo Hopkins (Midnight Express, The Getaway) and Ian McKellen (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy), this fascinating film inspired by a true story proves that our heroes have sometimes been... cowgirls. After bearing an illegitimate child, society girl Josephine Monaghan (Amis) leaves home in disgrace. On the road west, she discovers that a woman alone is sexual prey for any man - so she disguises herself as a boy. As Little Jo, she confronts all the dangers the West has to offer - from deadly winters to murderous outlaws. But her most treacherous enemy is her own heart - when she risks everything by falling in love with the one man who discovers her secret.
