Winds Of The Wasteland: Oscar® winner John Wayne (True Grit) took an early step to stardom in this 1936 Western reuniting him with Mack V. Wright, who directed his Haunted Gold, Somewhere in Sonora, and The Man From Monterey. As the telegraph takes over, each Pony Express rider is given two horses as a reward, so Johnny Blair (Wayne) and Larry Adams (Lane Chandler) buy a run-down stageline from Cal Drake (Douglas Cosgrove). Realizing they've been cheated, they race Drake to Sacramento for a $25,000 government mail contract, with Barbara Forsythe (Phyllis Fraser) cheering them on as they revitalize the ghost town of Crescent City.
Angel & The Badman: The Duke Detours on the other side of the law in this Western Directed by Oscar® nominated screenwriter James Edward Grant (The Sheepman), with whom he later collaborated on a dozen more films. Badly wounded gunman Quirt Evans is taken in and nursed back to health by a beautiful and innocent Quaker girl, Penelope Worth (Wayne's Wake of the Red Witch co-star, Gail Russell), and her family. While it's love at first sight for her, the Society of Friends has its work cut out for it in changing Quirt's violent ways, especially with his old enemy, Laredo Stevens (Bruce Cabot), around to make trouble. After Laredo's larcenous activities nearly cost Penny her life, Quirt's better instincts will soon be put to the ultimate test in the tense final showdown of this unusual film, the first produced by Wayne himself.
Blue Steel/ Hell Town: Blue Steel - The ranchers of Yucca City, whose town secretly sits atop the richest gold field ever discovered, are trapped by a gang of crooks that tries to starve them out, forcing them all to sell their homes for a few paltry dollars. Mysterious stranger John Wayne enters into an uneasy alliance with wily old sheriff George "Gabby" Hayes, who has mistaken him for the notorious Polka Dot Bandit (Yakima Canutt), before revealing his true identity. Hell Town - Also known as Born to the West, and based on a novel by Zane Grey, this early effort finds the Duke playing opposite his fellow Western star, John Mack Brown, as cattle-driving cousins Dare Rudd and Tom Fillmore. No love is lost between them, especially when Dare falls for Tom's girl, Judith Worstall (Marsha Hunt), but they discover a new-found respect for each other after joining forces against cattle rustlers and card sharps.
Texas Terror/ The Trail Beyond: Texas Terror - In this early effort, John Wayne appears with frequent co-star George "Gabby" Hayes, and plays a lawman stricken with grief because he believes he was responsible for the death of his friend while chasing bandits. Crushed, the Duke chooses the lonely life of prospecting, and only the need to rescue his dead friend's daughter (Lucille Brown) from danger brings him around, which happily leads to the real killer and justice. The Trail Beyond - Agreeing to track down a friend's missing brother and niece, John and Marie Ball, the Duke heads north with the law in hot pursuit after his pal Noah Beery, Jr. (The Rockford Files) is framed for murder along the way. They learn that Ball and his partner killed each other over a gold mine, leaving a map that shows its location, and Wayne has plenty of competition for the girl and the gold before a shootout with the Mounties.
