Just ring for doom service!

A scary tale of New England witchcraft, Horror Hotel (1960) was once a staple on the late, late show. Many a kid growing up in the Seventies lost sleep over this one.(By the way, it was known as City Of The Dead in England.)

A college student (Venetia Stephenson), prompted by her history professor (Christopher Lee), journeys to Whitewood, Massachusetts, for research on a 17th-century witch, Elizabeth Selwyn. There, a Psycho-like plot twist leads to a creepy coven of modern day witches, human sacrifices to Satan and a truly terrifying ending.

Shot in three weeks (they say Lee worked just one day), Horror Hotel was written by George Baxt, who also scripted Circus Of Horrors (1960) and Burn, Witch, Burn (1961).

With atmosphere to spare (this has to be the foggiest movie ever made), and closer in spirit to H.P. Lovecraft than most films actually adapted from his work, Horror Hotel still packs quite a wallop.

For years, it was believed that only 16mm prints remained of Horror Hotel. However, 35mm material has been located and was transferred especially for this DVD release.
